About the press

Small Endian Press publishes picture books that take children's questions about technology seriously. Our books are written and illustrated by Matthew Allen and follow the Colin the Computer series, a growing set of stories in the spirit of Mr Men: short, funny, and quietly educational. Every book introduces one idea, shows it in action, and leaves a thread for the next book to pick up.

About the name

A "small press" is an independent publisher, working at a human scale. "Endian" comes from computing, where little-endian and big-endian describe which end of a number a computer stores first. The terms were borrowed from Gulliver's Travels, where the Lilliputians go to war over which end of a boiled egg to break. Small Endian Press sits somewhere in the middle of all that, which felt about right for a publisher of books about computers for people who are three.
